Indore, August 2025 – In a remarkable achievement, Indore has once again been named the cleanest city in India, securing the top spot for the eighth year in a row in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 rankings. This consistent performance reinforces Indore’s position as a national leader in urban cleanliness and civic management.
The award was presented at a ceremony in New Delhi, with President Droupadi Murmu honoring the winning cities. Surat and Navi Mumbai secured the second and third positions respectively, while Noida was recognized as the cleanest city in the 3–10 lakh population category.
Why Indore Continues to Lead
Indore’s repeated success is the result of a combination of innovation, public participation, and a strong administrative commitment to cleanliness. Key initiatives include:
100% Waste Segregation: Every household in the city separates dry and wet waste, which is then processed into compost and bio-CNG. This has helped minimize landfill use and support sustainable urban practices.
Efficient Waste Collection: Door-to-door garbage collection is managed by GPS-enabled vehicles. Streets are cleaned both during the day and at night to ensure round-the-clock hygiene.
Technology Integration: Smart monitoring systems, CCTV surveillance, and mobile applications help track sanitation activities and address public complaints in real time.
Citizen Engagement: Indore’s success heavily relies on the active participation of its residents. The city promotes awareness through campaigns, cleanliness drives, and creative efforts like musical “Swachhta Anthems” that remind people to dispose of their waste properly.
Going Green Beyond Clean
Beyond cleanliness, Indore is also focusing on environmental sustainability. Recently, over 11,000 saplings were planted across the city under a massive green drive, as part of a long-term goal to plant 51 lakh trees. This initiative aims to enhance the city’s green cover and promote ecological balance.
